“That’s it! I’ve hit my limit!” Matt announces. “This is the 10th time this morning I’ve been asked to enter a verification code in order to access an application I use all day, every day. It’s ridiculous. I know the day is done when I just can’t take it anymore! When I just don’t have it in me to enter my password and then copy the silly little code that pops up! And for what?! You’re already staring over my shoulder Janet! You’ve already made it clear I’m not going anywhere at this company!”
As Matt starts to shake and violently count to 10, Janet looks over with a very disappointed look on her face.
“I don’t know what happened with Matt” sighs Janet. “He aced the interview and was doing so well for the first few months, but after a security breach from a former employee, we really had to step up security with a verification system. I know it’s an extra step, but I don’t know why it bothers him so much.”
“Are you talking about me?!” Matt interrupts. “You better not be telling this guy about the websites I visit when I’m at home not clocked in Janet! What I do in my safe space is my business Janet!”
Matt storms out of the office.
“I don’t know what to do with him” a frustrated Janet explains. “He’s my best friend’s husband and he’s an absolute nightmare employee. HR is constantly reaching out to me about his questionable search history and he doesn’t even log in when he works from home. When he is in the office, which is becoming a rare occurrence, he’s always going on about his “limit” and then he leaves at lunch. He just doesn’t come back.”
What should Matt do about his micro managing manager Janet?
