“What kind of a**hole schedules a meeting during lunch?!” laments Daniel, a super senior manager at a boring tech company. “I thought the whole work-all-day and work-all-night thing had ended with all the layoffs. Do we need more layoffs?”
Several lower level workers overhear Daniel complaining to himself and begin to freak out.
“There are going to be more layoffs?!” screams Jeremy, a new hire who just spent the last year looking for a job. “I thought this company was stable! What am I going to tell my wife?! My kids already think I’m a loser!”
“I hope the whole company gets laid off” says Tim, one of the first hires who has never been promoted in the 17 years with the company. “I was just thinking this morning about how nice it would be to just not come here anymore.”
How about you, reader, how would you feel if you overheard your manager talking about layoffs?
